What are Hydex baffle valves?

 

As most pepole will be aware, water tanks are (most often) somewhat unstable… From their 'duck motion' as they waddle down the haul road through to the 'roll over' of the rear chassis which is obviously costly and potentially very dangerous. So, during development of our own water tank, we have developed, tested and applied for a patent on our own unique baffling system.

These internal baffles really help to compartmentalise the water within the tank thus helping to maintain even axle distribution and to significantly reduce sloshing within the tank even when the it’s half-full.

You'll see on the first video shown below that in a regular tank (as you will see from the vast majority of manufacturers), due to the access man-ways in the baffles to facilitate regular maintenance, the water flow around the tank is mostly unrestricted with the water moving from front to rear and/or side to side virtually instantaneously.

 

So what have we done to help combat this? The use of some cleverly placed rubber flap-valves over those man-ways mean that we can control the vast majority of the water movement within the tank. As you'll see on the video show below, when travelling over un-even ground, the weight distribution within the tank remains relatively stable and even when the machine goes up, down or across a grade the movement of water is slowed and controlled considerably so that 'sloshing' does not occur.

Because these valves are manufactured from tough industrial rubber they don't suffer from corrosion and when maintenance is required they simply fold out of the way so that access inside the tank is not compromised, meaning you can fully maintain your water tank extending its working life.
